#under15s: Man United lose on penalties in SuperCupNI final

Manchester United’s under-15s side, managed by Tommy Martin, were gutted to lose in the SuperCupNI Junior Section final on Friday night.

The Reds were beaten 5-3 on penalties by the holders of the tournament County Antrim, winning this section for the second consecutive season.

The two sides were deadlocked at 0-0 for much of the game before a fantastically dramatic ending. Co. Antrim took the lead in the final five minutes, with Charlie Allen hitting nice finish from a tight angle on the left side of the box.

That was before Will Fish’s free-kick inside his own half caused a goalkeeping mistake from the Antrim shotstopper, Connor Friel, coming out to claim Fish’s ‘cross’ and missing the ball.

Charlie Savage looked to test the goalkeeper in the final moments of added time, striking a looping shot on the half-volley, but it dipped onto the roof of the net.

Fish tried his luck again with the last kick of the game, sending another cross into the Antrim box.

The game went to penalties, though, and Friel made up for his earlier mistake with a good save to deny United’s Owen Dodgson in the only penalty of the shootout that failed to hit the back of the net.
