With the return of the first team to the UEFA Champions League via last season’s UEFA Europa League win, Man United’s under-19 side returns to the elite level European youth competition, the UEFA Youth League.
Nicky Butt, Head of Academy, will take charge of the side as he did last time the Reds were in the competition, rather than under-18s manager Kieran McKenna or under-23s manager Ricky Sbragia.
The format of the competition follows that of the Champions League, with the same groups being drawn, so United’s opponents are Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow.
Benfica were last year’s runners-up.
