Welsh centre-back Regan Poole has joined League One side Northampton Town on loan for the 2017/18 season, where he’ll be reunited with Justin Edinburgh.
Edinburgh gave Poole his debut in the Football League when the Welshman was at Newport County. He went on to play 15 times in the league for Newport.
Having made his United debut as an added time substitute for the Reds against FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League, this will be Poole’s third experience of first team football with a different club.
Poole’s competitive debut could be against Shrewsbury Town, coincidentally the side whom he appeared against under Edinburgh for his debut at Newport. That game is on August 5th, 2017. Academy Man Utd will have extensive coverage of Poole’s progress while on loan in League One throughout the 2017/18 season, on here as well as on our twitter.
Regan Poole’s player profile
Poole joined United from Newport County as a 17-year-old. He’s already gained Football League experience with 15 League Two appearances for Newport, where he became the youngest player in their history at 16 years and 94 days.
International clearance meant it was some months before Poole could play competitive fixtures for United. Once he did, though, he impressed in a number of positions, but has now firmly established himself as a centre-back.
He made his United first team debut as an added time substitute against FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League. Although he was sent off in the final group game at the Dallas Cup 2017, Poole captained the Reds well in the USA in a highlight of his United career so far.
He represented Wales’ under-20s at the Toulon Tournament in early summer 2017.
