#under23s: Twelve academy players in Man Utd first team vs Palace

An incredible 12 players out of the 18-man matchday squad for Manchester United against Crystal Palace played in the United academy.

There are first team debuts for 21-year-old Josh Harrop in attacking midfield and 20-year-old Demi Mitchell at left-back.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay makes his first club for the club after his debut as a substitute against Arsenal. Joel Pereira also makes his first start in goal.

Axel Tuanzebe starts for the fourth consecutive Premier League games.

18-year-old Zak Dearnley and 16-year-old Angel Gomes are both on the substitutes bench. As are central midfielder Matty Willock and Republic of Ireland under-21 goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara.

Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard also start, having come through the academy too making it 8 out of 11 in the starting line-up academy boys.

The most youth players ever in a Man United squad was 13 against West Brom in a 2003 League Cup match and Deportivo in the Champions League in the same year. José Mourinho has come close today.
