Manchester United under-18 duo Aidan Barlow and Lee O’Connor will face each other as their respective nations qualified for the U17 Euro quarter-finals in Croatia.
Barlow was a 67th-minute substitute for England under-17s in a 3-0 win against the Netherlands. The Young Lions had qualified after just two group games, but secured a third win and made it 10 goals in three games with just one conceded. They look like favourites for the competition alongside Germany.
Meanwhile, O’Connor, a nominee for Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year, captained the Republic of Ireland in a 7-0 defeat to Germany, who set a record for number of goals in a group stage of a UEFA men’s tournament at any level. Despite that heavy loss, O’Connor, who played 57 minutes of that game, will lead his team out against England in the quarter-final.
That game is on Saturday, May 13th with kick-off at 11AM BST. It will be shown on Eurosport.
