#loanwatch: Guillermo Varela makes Eintracht return, misses penalty

Guillermo Varela tore his ankle ligaments in September and after surgery and rehab, made his comeback on Wednesday night for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The full-back, bought by David Moyes, had been playing well before his injury.

His comeback was a special one on a team level as Eintracht beat Borussia Monchengladbach on penalties to reach the German Cup Final where they’ll face Borussia Dortmund.

Varela was introduced as a 74th-minute substitute forced by injury, but missed the chance to win the game in the penalty shootout.

Eintracht did eventually overcome Gladbach. Varela will now be hoping to start at the weekend as his side travel to Hoffenheim.
