Despite leading 3-1 at half-time at Stalybridge Celtic’s home ground, Manchester United’s under-15 side were defeated in the Blades Cup Final on Wednesday night.

Featuring a number of players from the under-16s’ competition win in the Football for Freedom Premier League International Tournament last week, including goalscorer Mason Greenwood, United couldn’t win a second tournament of the week.

After Bright Amoatang opened the scoring for Liverpool, Greenwood equalised quickly for United before two more goals before half-time for the Reds, from Abdul Djau and Anthony Elanga.

Coming out of the break, however, Amoatang got a second of the night at Stalybridge before an equaliser came from Leighton Clarkson. Amoatang went on to score a third and a fourth for himself as Liverpool stormed to victory in the second half as United tired.

In recent weeks, with Head of Academy Nicky Butt leading on this matter, United have been featuring in more tournaments of a similar nature to this and the Football for Freedom tournament at Liverpool’s academy last weekend. The experience is certainly beneficial to players, particularly at a young age like this.
