#loanwatch: October 15-17 preview

Only five Manchester United loanees have the chance of getting some game time this week. Guillermo Varela remains injured following a torn ankle ligament which will see him sidelined for some week yet, although he has stayed at German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Adnan Januzaj’s Sunderland will be in action in the Premier League, but he’s still injured, although will return sooner than Varela.

Saturday, October 15th

Dean Henderson, goalkeeper – Grimsby Town – vs Cambridge United – 3PM kick-off

The young Henderson played one of England under-20s’ two fixtures during the international break, alongside under-23 captain Axel Tuanzebe, but has yet to be given a chance at Grimsby in the National League.

James Wilson, striker – Derby County – vs Leeds United – 3PM kick-off

Wilson has been given plenty of chances with Derby this season, and his performances haven’t always merited such treatment. However, with former-United assistant manager Steve McClaren returning for the Rams as manager, Wilson’s fortunes could change for the better or worse now. Hopefully, he can continue to get experience in the Sky Bet Championship and start scoring, beginning with Saturday’s fixture as Derby host United-s rivals Leeds.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, defender – Wolverhampton Wanderers – vs Aston Villa – 5:30PM kick-off

Like Wilson, a new manager will be making a debut for their club in Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s fixture this weekend, however, it’s for opposition Aston Villa. Manchester United hero Steve Bruce will be on the touchline for the Villains and Borthwick-Jackson is likely to start at left-back as he has done frequently for Wolves this season.

His performances have been hailed by supporters at Molineux, earning a couple of Man of the Match awards on the way, including on his debut. Televised on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.

Andreas Pereira, attacking midfielder – Granada – vs Atletico Madrid – 5:30PM kick-off

A big game for a struggling Granada side that Andreas Pereira has shone out in. This side, now managed by Lucas Alvarez after Paco Jemez was sacked, has been bundled together with multiple loan players like Pereira forming the core. There is little chemistry and results have been poor. However, Pereira has been one of Granada’s best players and the experience of playing against the compact, excellent Atletico Madrid side will be fantastic for Andreas. Televised on Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports 5 HD.

Sunday, October 16th

Joel Castro Pereira, goalkeeper – Belenenses – vs Academica – 7:15PM kick-off

Last season’s goalkeeper with the title-winning under-21 side at Old Trafford is looking to play his second game of the season at Belenenses. There’s no league action this week. Instead, it’s a Sunday night Portuguese Cup fixture. He made his debut for the club in the Taça da Liga last week, a 1-0 win against Boavista.
