#loanwatch: September 16-18 preview

As the first team succumbed to a second consecutive defeat, with worryingly similar problems as the Manchester derby, against Feyenoord, Manchester United’s loanees were preparing for the weekend’s fixtures.

Friday 16th September

Andreas Pereira, Granada – vs Real Betis – 7:45PM

After standing out in Granada’s defeat to ten-man Eibar last Sunday, Andreas Pereira will look to build on that impressive performance. His physicality has greatly improved, cutting a more imposing figure, while his creativity and vision impressed Granada’s supporters. The Brazilian was started on the left-wing by manager Paco Jémez last weekend and is likely to play there once more, although he’ll be hoping for a more central role.

Saturday 17th September

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Wolves – vs Newcastle United – 3:00PM

The young defender was named Man of the Match by sponsors in his debut for Wolves last weekend against Burton Albion, conceding a late equaliser. Borthwick-Jackson was rested for the Championship side’s midweek fixture against Barnsley, a 4-0 defeat. It can be expected, therefore, that he’ll start on Saturday.

James Wilson, Derby County – vs Bristol City – 3:00PM

Wilson, unlike Borthwick-Jackson, has not come close to being Man of the Match, failing to really stand-out for Derby County as of yet. Despite that, manager Nigel Pearson has retained faith in the striker and will, hopefully, continue to do so. Some Derby fans have, perhaps unfairly, criticised his attitude, and he could do with netting a goal or two to stop that. Bristol City offer a reasonably tough test for Derby, although lost their last game 3-2 to Sheffield Wednesday.

Dean Henderson, Grimsby Town – vs Crewe Alexandra – 3:00PM

Henderson, who recently insisted he can become the best goalkeeper in the world, has yet to make his debut for Grimsby. Last weekend, they beat Luton Town 2-1 as Henderson sat on the bench, having returned from international duty with England under-20s.

Joel Pereira, Belenenses – vs Vitoria – 8:30PM

Like Henderson, Joel Castro Pereira was on the bench for his new loan side after joining late in the transfer window. He watched Belenenses get an important three points against Nacional in the Portuguese Liga.

Adnan Januzaj, Sunderland – vs Tottenham Hotspur – 4:30PM

The Belgian winger faces tough opposition as Sunderland (and David Moyes) look to improve after a thrashing from Everton and Romelu Lukaku last Monday. Januzaj dipped in and out of that game, his substantial ability showing only in moments. He needs to bring consistency into his game, not in terms of game after game but rather in-game consistency.

Guillermo Varela is injured with a torn ankle ligament and will be out for 3-4 months at German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
